About | Construction, Explained

I'm Trish Marianovits — a Gold Seal Certified Project Manager with a civil engineering degree and over 30 years on all sides of the construction table. Construction, Explained exists because most project losses don't come from catastrophic failures. They come from invisible risk that was never made visible.

A Career Built Across Every Role

My career has taken me from estimating and managing commercial projects such as:

  • The water treatment plant construction in Penticton
  • ICI work in San Francisco
  • Coordinating the second LEED Platinum build (MURB in Hamilton) in Canada
  • Serving as Owner's Representative on LEED Gold institutional builds in Winnipeg
  • Managing the variation process on a $350M hospital project at Joseph Brant
  • Estimator and Project Manager at R.K. Porter General Contracting in Perth, Ontario

That breadth — estimator, PM, Owner's Rep, across public and private sectors — means I understand how risk travels across every phase and every side of the contract.

My degree in Civil Engineering — with a specialization in Construction — gave me the structural foundation. Three decades of real projects gave me the rest.

Why This Platform Exists

Construction, Explained grew out of a simple observation: mid-sized contractors consistently lose margin not because they lack skill, but because they lack systems to surface risk before it becomes costly. This platform translates field-tested frameworks into structured tools — for estimating, site management, and project delivery — built for teams who are busy running work, not reading textbooks.

I work with contractors across Canada. My project history runs deepest in Ontario, which is where most of my contractor relationships are rooted — but the frameworks apply wherever the work is.

"Early in my career, I volunteered with an adult literacy program. The lesson that stuck: if someone isn't getting it, the failure belongs to the teacher, not the learner. Adjust your language. Match their frame."
